Vivek Oberoi is clearly not happy about being tagged as a stalker

Vivek Oberoi is clearly not happy about being tagged as a "stalker" or a "gatecrasher" and says he is "genuinely sick" of all controversies.

"Suddenly I’m a stalker one day and one day I’m a gatecrasher. Mela laga hua hai kya (Is it a fair of controversies)? Will anybody say anything and walk away? What nonsense is this? It’s very irresponsible and I completely disapprove of it. It’s rubbish. If there was an element of truth in this, I can understand. But this is nonsense," Vivek told IANS.

The actor, who was here to give a sneak preview of a Bollywood musical to be performed at a yet-to-be opened entertainment destination Kingdom of Dreams, seemed visibly upset about recent news reports about him. He has been accused of going uninvited for a party at superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s residence where his former beau Aishwarya Rai was present with husband Abhishek Bachchan.

"Shah Rukh and Gauri have been exceptionally kind to me, they are lovely people. It’s not like I haven’t been to their place before. I have been to their place for their events, their parties - and suddenly I become a gatecrasher? From where? Does anybody do that? I won’t go to my relatives house without an invite," Vivek said.

The 33-year-old also came in the spotlight recently when he was seated next to the former Miss World at a function in Mumbai, while at another event, he was blamed for being strategically seated behind power couple Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan.

And when Vivek made an unexpected late entry at the premiere of "Rann" in New Delhi Thursday, where Aishwarya and Abhishek were present, his presence was speculated upon yet again.

"Yesterday I came out of the premiere of ’Rann’ and I was asked a silly question - ’Why weren’t you sitting in the same auditorium?’. How do I answer that? Do I have to go search for them in each auditorium and then sit accordingly? It’s ridiculous. And if I was inside the same auditorium as theirs, then people would say ’You’re stalking them’," said Vivek.

He stressed that every person involved in these speculations has moved on and is happy in his or her life, and so the media should just let them be.

"They are all happy with their own lives. I am doing great work by god’s grace, my personal life is very happy, I have got a great life and wonderful friends. They (Abhishek and Aishwarya) are married, they are really happy, doing really well and they are wonderful, civil to me as I am to them and there is no problem. It is irritating that people just keep bringing it up."

The actor first brush with controversy came when he called a press conference against actor Salman Khan in 2003. He has been courting controversies ever since, but says he is tired of making clarifications now.

"I’m tired of clarifications. Why should I keep giving clarifications? There are new stories about me everyday, so should I leave everything and make clarifications? I’m a human being, I’m an actor, I work, I have a family, I have got a nice life - let me live it. Otherwise I should be on the hotline with the media constantly. I am genuinely sick of it. People should stop it now," he said.

On the film front, Vivek will soon be seen in Ramesh Taurani’s "Prince" followed by Ram Gopal Varma’s two-part series "Rakta Charitra".

Actress Preity Zinta is starting a new chapter in her life

Actress-entrepreneur Preity Zinta is starting a new chapter in her life following her breakup with businessman Ness Wadia. The only thing that bothers her are link-ups with co-stars and friends, as a result of which none of her male friends, she says, wants to go out with her.

"I’m surrounded by celebrities who are constantly discussing their personal lives. I’m the same Preity Zinta I used to be. You won’t find me discussing my private life in detail. I’m in a very good space right now," Preity told IANS.

"The only problem is any man whom I’m seen with in public is automatically linked with me. I’ve come to a place where none of my male friends wants to go out with me any more! I think I’ll just have to pick my date for the next public event through a contest!" she added laughing.

Preity, who is co-owner of Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kings XI Punjab, has to cope up with being linked to not only her co-stars but also cricketers now.

"Can you imagine, members of my own team! I’ve always maintained I’d never mix business and pleasure. Now that I’m getting fully into business, I’m narrowing my chances of finding a man. I know I’d never get into criminal activities, so maybe..."

Talking about her new equation with former boyfriend Ness Wadia, Preity said: "The media has been trying to find awkwardness in our equation. Why should that be? We’re still good friends. We’re no longer seeing each other. We’re colleagues now.

"If ever I’m in a situation, I’m sure he’d watch my back, as I’d watch his. But would people let go of this fascination with the equation between me and Ness? It’s been one year since we broke up."

Preity has been spending a lot of time outside Mumbai and says she goes out of the city to avoid prying eyes.

"Whenever I’m not shooting I’m out of the country. Don’t get me wrong. I love Mumbai to death. But tell me what can an actor can do in the city if she isn’t working? I can’t go out partying. I can’t even take a jog. What do I do on a Sunday? I can’t even go out.

"Now (after the Ness episode) it’s become worse. I can’t go out with any guy. If I do I’ve to beg some women to come along, otherwise the guy and I get linked up. I can’t handle it any more," said Preity.

She describes her stint at the Harvard Business School as the best time of her life. "I took the plunge in December and went back to school, to Harvard School. Believe you me, it was the most enriching experience of my life. I didn’t do it because I wanted to go back to college. I wanted to learn about business management so I could be a better entrepreneur."

"I had the best time of my life. I felt so proud to see so many young Asian students in Harvard. That was the future...I learnt negotiations and mergers, acquisitions, etc. There were students from all over the world, including, of course Asians. More than just the course, the questions that the students asked were so pertinent."

Preity is ready to get back to films in a big way now. "But as far as my role in the IPL cricket team is concerned it’s all settled down now... My focus is now back to movies. I’m on the verge of signing new films."

She says that 2010 will be a good year for her.

"Last year I was too busy experiencing life to talk about it. 2009 was a year of learning for me. Now I reap the dividends of what I learnt. I went back to college.

"I wasn’t travelling and nursing a broken heart. Just because I wasn’t giving explanations. The worst you can do to someone who’s recovering from an emotional setback is to crowd them. I should’ve been left alone. It’s like a death in your family.

"Those condolence calls just set your teeth on edge. My way of dealing with my breakup was to move on. The Harvard experience really rejuvenated me. I’ve come back a different person. You watch 2010 is going to be the best year of my life. As Mr. (Amitabh) Bachchan would say, it’s going to be mindboggling."

Actor Saif Ali Khan would pose as a problem in future

Hardly our Chote Nawab would have thought that his hunting adventure few years back, would pose as a problem in future.

Recently Saif Ali Khan was awarded with Padma Shri. However his achievement was not appreciated by certain people in Rajasthan. It is reported that the Bishnoi community and wildlife activists are quite angry for honouring Saif with such prestigious award.

Remember the ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ days? The film’s cast including Saif and Salman entered the bad books of Jodhpur for alleged killings of black bucks during the shooting. Now the people of the state who still sentimentally harbours the incident said to be approaching the Union government to take back Saif’s Award. Besides, the Bishnoi Tiger Vanyajeev Evam Paryavaran Sansthan (BTVPS) said that they will soon appeal to the President and the Prime Minister protesting against the decision. People for Animals have also expressed similar agitation.

According to them, the decision is hurting the dignity of the award as well as the spirit of the other deserving recipients.

Bachchan pariwar are coming together in yet another ad film

The young couple of Bachchan pariwar are coming together in yet another ad film.

Tarun Mansukhani who gave us ‘Dostana’ has directed this one while Dino Morea has produced it.

Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan were recently in Filmistan Studios shooting for the project. And it was moment of old times for the hot jodi….

It was at this very place where the two stars first came together for the film ’Dhai Akshar Prem Ke’, 11 years ago.

With a nostalgic feel, Abhishek penned on his social networking page, “Then, I would have never dreamt that the next time we shoot here would be as husband and wife. How time flies, how lives change.”

The actor also expressed his happiness to act for the director again. Wrote Abhishek, “Great to step in front of his camera again. He’s great. And we’re all set!” Then in his usual jovial manner, he remarked, “The wife is looking her usual stunning self, and me....... Well, I’m looking like Shrek’s cousin.”

Vishal Bhardwaj directed Ishqiya is due for release on 29th January

Maverick filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj hasn’t directed Ishqiya, but could the film have been churned out better had Vishal Bhardwaj himself directed it, instead of his protégé Abhishek Chaubey, who is debuting with this film?

This million dollar question was aptly put to rest by Vidya who plays the protagonist in Ishqiya, as she promptly replies, “It wouldn’t have been better or worse, but it would have been different. But Abhishek Chaubey has made a wonderful film.”

She continues, “Vishal’s interpretation and presentation would be different. So I don’t think I can compare at all. Though credit must go to Vishal that being a director himself and having co-written Ishqiya he didn’t interfere in the film. We have an opinion on everything, but Vishal had complete confidence in Abhishek. It is such a nice marriage of minds.”

The film is due for release on 29th January 2010.

‘Veer’ had gross worldwide box office collections of Rs.41 crores

Eros International announced that in its opening weekend the Salman Khan starrer ‘Veer’ had gross worldwide box office collections of Rs. 41 crores.

‘Veer’ took Rs. 32 crores (Rs. 19.50 crores net) in its first weekend in India with Rs. 9 crores taken overseas. Salman’s last hit Wanted netted Rs. 17.25 crores for the same period.

An Anil Sharma film, ‘Veer’, starring Salman Khan, Mithun Chakraborty , Jackie Shroff and debutant Zarine Khan released across cinemas worldwide on 22nd January 2010. The film released 1,300 prints and in digital cinemas all over India and a further 236 prints overseas.

Riteish Deshmukh actually living in his character in Rann

The Rann fever seems to have spread seriously. As the film is waiting for its release on 29th Jan, the media is just behind the latest update of this media-centric film.

While actors go extend to get into the skin of their characters, Riteish Deshmukh is said to have gone step ahead by actually living in his character in Rann. In this Ram Gopal Varma’s directorial Riteish plays investigative journalist, a role that is quite different from the ones he has played so far.

The reel life character in fact has inspired the actor a lot in real life as well. “When during the film promotion, I actually went and did the job of an investigative journalist,” said Riteish, “It wasn’t easy to get to places where the actual events happened, to persuade people to shoot at locations that mattered. It was a different experience.”

Talking further about his role, he said, “The character I portray is of a person who is all that a journalist should be. He is a common man who wants to make a difference.”

While Riteish is glad to have done the role of journo, he seems to be thirsty for more. And he is ruminating over the idea of playing one in reality. “There are so many issues that run on my mind. Child abuse is one such issue. I want us to be more aware, more responsible and if I am an investigative journalist, this is one issue that I will tackle for sure,” revealed the actor.

Reportedly, ’Crooked’, directed by Abhinay Deo will spotlight Sarah in three different phases and producer Sidhwani is confident that, "she’s got a terrific spark in her."

Presently, Sarah’s taking diction lessons from Shabana Azmi and picking up the finer nuances of histrionics from her. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has replaced Salman Khan as the face of innerwear brand Dollar Club and the company plans to spend about Rs.25 crore on the ad campaigns.

‘Dollar Industries is tipped to spend up to Rs.25 crore for the campaign in the next one year. The new commercials featuring Akshay Kumar are likely to hit the air in the first week of February,’ said Krishan Gupta, director of Dollar Industries Ltd, in a press statement.

Akshay says this will be his first endorsement in the knitted innerwear segment.

‘This is going to be my first endorsement in the knitted innerwear segment. Chopra took a trip to St Paul’s Road on January 18. His security guards blocked the road for about 10-12 minutes and didn’t allow anyone to use the road. Chopra then came from the wrong side of the road and only when he drove away were the others permitted to use the road.

Another famous director who happened to be there at that time was surprised by this. He expresses that while this kind of road block is done by politicians, it was shocking to know how Chopra blocked the road like that. And as there weren’t any traffic policemen there, he had free reign to do whatever he liked.

Rakhi Sawant has decided to file a legal suit against the censor board

Look who’s taking on the Censor Board! None other than the spitfire siren Rakhi Sawant , who’s fuming red because the board recently issued a decree to delete or bleep out the word ‘kamine’ from her latest song ‘Bhoot’.

As reported by a daily, the hot girl has decided to file a legal suit against the censor board along with IshQ Bector, as the duo feel the board’s action is unjust. The song ‘Bhoot’ is from Rakhi and IshQ’s latest album ‘Jhagde’ and the main chorus of the song starts with the line, ‘Kamine tera bhoot chad gaya re.’

Now, Rakhi’s point is, “When they can pass an entire film called Kaminey, what sense does it make to delete the word ‘kamine’ from our video, and that too, without giving us any reason whatsoever.” Rakhi is co-producing ‘Jhagde’ with IshQ, who is also the singer and composer of the entire album. He also feels that by deleting the word ‘kamine’, the impact of the song has been “killed” and this has even “sabotaged” the album sales.

Surprisingly, the Board seems to have problem only with the video as they had passed the ‘promos’ of the track that has the same ‘kamine’ chorus. Why they banned the word for the video is a mystery.

If you can’t burn the dance floor with it, you won’t even miss a chance to groove a bit. The song is anyway going to be your favourite in this album.

This track takes a little longer to grow on you. But after that you are ready to sizzle, as your adrenaline begins to rush with Uff Teri Adaa…Verdict, it’s a good disc number in the voice of Shankar Mahadevan and Alyssa Mendonsa. Rock on! And continue to do so when the remix version plays, for it’s as good as the original.

The album’s mood gets intense and we have the song Jaane Ye Kya Hua in the voice of Kay Kay. The soft romantic ballad has a simple tune, and you would like to hear it with a cup of coffee in the evening or when you are driving back home. The mouthorgan and guitar combination for the song just soothes your senses. Just relax while you listen.

The poignant feel of the album comes with the song Kaisi Yeh Udaasi. Kailash Kher and Sukanya Purayastha get to sing this song with passion. The sombre song is not for all times.

As the movie is a thriller, its title track, Karthik Calling Karthik haunts you with its music, but is not loud. Very situational, the song does make an impression. The theme remix version of the same song does justice to the subject of the film and reminds you of the disco music of the 80s. Kartik 2.0 is an instrumental piece, with a dash of rock and heavy metal. Composers are Midival Punditz and Karsh Kale.

With five original compositions in the album, the composers have tried to touch every mood and emotion: affection, dread, confusion, longing and sadness. Though the movie is a thriller, the makers have come out with some good quality tracks to fit the storyline and that pleases the Bollywood music lovers. After all, it’s a Farhan Akhtar film.

Though situational, the songs are going to find their place in your regular playlist.

Zarine Khan does not look like Katrina Kaif-Salman Khan

Salman Khan is reportedly fed up of being repeatedly asked about his Veer co-star Zarine Khan’s resemblance to his lady love Katrina Kaif. The star insists he knows that they don’t look like each other at all.

Salman, who appeared on Zee TV’s dance reality show Dance India Dance 2, told the show’s grandmaster Mithun Chakraborty: "Dada, the press guys are hell-bent on making me accept that Zarine (Veer) looks like Katrina, and I’m tired of telling them she is not even close to her."

"Nobody knows Katrina better than me and I’m telling you guys, Zarine does not look like Katrina ," he added.

Salman thoroughly enjoyed his stay on the sets, said a source.

When the actor saw the male participants lifting the girls high up in the air during their act, he joked: "Guys, now this is something I just cannot do! I may lift really heavy weights, bench press more than most men do but I can never lift a woman that high up in the air."

Releasing on Friday, Veer is Salman’s pet project. Written by the actor himself 20 years ago, the movie is set in colonial India.

Ishqiya was passed on without any cuts with an ‘A’ certificate

Ishqiya with all its colourful expletives and sexually charged visuals was passed on Wednesday without any cuts with an ‘A’ certificate. A huge step forward for Hindi cinema which contains graphic language.

Says the film’s director Abhishek Choubey, “Frankly I expected I’d be asked for some kind of an explanation for the language and content and why they were necessary. I had gone prepared with dossiers on every graphic word and shot.

To my surprise I wasn’t asked for any explanation. I was given an ‘Adults’ certificate with no cuts at all. I guess it’s a sign of how far censorship has come in our country.”

The censor board apparently baulked at some of the gaalis. But finally saw reason.

Says the film’s director, “I never claimed the film was for children. The content is adult. So I’ve no problem with the ‘A’ certificate.I feel the profile of the audience is changing swiftly.”

Abhishek also hastens to add that the language is not as strong as people seem to think. “It’s not about creating shock value.It’s the way these people in the small North Indian towns live their life.”

Priyanka Chopra in a powerful role opposite the Southern star Rana

Priyanka Chopra , as we all well know by now, is very keen to be part of Rohan Sippy’s film.

Rohan who had earlier worked with Priyanka in Bluff Master was also keen to cast her in his Goan drug-busting film. Sippy wanted to cast Priyanka in a powerful role opposite the Southern star Rana Daggubati.

The earlier plan was to cast Priyanka opposite Abhishek. But now a new girl will be paired with Abhishek while Priyanka was seriously considered opposite Daggubati.

Says a source, “Unfortunately the dates on which Priyanka was required for Rohan’s film clashed with Vishal Bharadwaj’s film.”

After Kaminey Priyanka has a unique chemistry with Bhardwaj. In Vishal’s Ek Bataa Saat (which means ‘1 into 7’) she plays a woman with seven husbands, a big challenge for the actress.

Says a source, “There was no way Priyanka could let go of Vishal’s Ek Bataa Saath. So she regretfully opted out of Rohan’s film.”

Now Rohan says he would probably have to cast newcomers opposite both Abhishek and Rana Daggubati.

Aamir Khan has always respected Actor Shammi Kapoor

Aamir Khan has always respected Shammi Kapoor. In fact, the actor admits to watching all of Shammi Kapoor’s films when he was debuting as a romantic hero as no one could beat Shammi Kapoor in the romance aspect.

Aamir Khan starrer ’3 Idiots’has spurred Bollywood personalities to look at their educational qualifications, how they got their degrees and how students should lead their lives.

The film, about life in an engineering college, tried to give the message that getting a degree is not the be-all and end-all of education.

Here is how some Bollywood personalities react to questions on their student life and give their advice to students:

Urmila Matondkar: ’I’m a BA in psychology. I was always under stress in both school and college as I had to manage both studies and acting. I dealt with it by diverting stress into positive aggression in my studies.

’My advice to students: Stress is part of life. You can’t run away from it. So deal with it before it’s too late. It helps to be book-smart at any time of life, as long as you learn from those books and not just mug.’

Dino Morea: ’I became a graduate. Was never stressed at school. Had the best time ever. Yes, if reading and being aware of a subject is being book-smart, for sure it’s handy in life. I was never depressed in school. I was naughty, but I studied hard.’

Kangana Ranaut: ’I left school when I was 16. But I’m glad to tell you I’ve always been a topper in my class. To achieve that I used to study 18 hours a day.

’The science in school didn’t help me much in my daily life as an adult. But the passion to be the best in my class and the love for books remain. Now I’m an artiste and I read on art. And I thank my hard work during school for this.’

Pritam Chakraborty: ’I did BSc honours in geology from Presidency College in Kolkata, postgraduate diploma in sound recording and engineering from the Film and Television Institute, Pune. I think mugging up and learning without understanding is useless in later life. But a basic education is important to build up personality.

’I used to feel stressed before exams after Class 7 when I stood first in class. Later everybody at home became interested in my rank and that was a matter of stress for me for years.

’I had music to kill the depression created due to studies. Also I had a great circle of family and friends. Doing badly in academics doesn’t mean you do badly in life. Discover your inner strength and choose a career you enjoy.’

Celina Jaitly: ’I’ve done one and a half years of BSc and have a software engineering degree from NIIT. I scored 89 percent in 10th boards and 75 percent in 12th. I used to feel very stressed during board exams. Thanks to my parents I made it through all my panic attacks.

’Playing a sport like tennis or swimming is a great way to keep fresh and alert. I remember my mother insisted we play a sport for half an hour even during exams. It was a great stress buster. Focus well on your studies. Do meditation and take power naps.’

Ken Ghosh: ’I’m a 12th Standard fail. In school I was quite a smart kid and actually enjoyed studies because of excellent teachers.’

Amole Gupte: ’I was a class topper with distinction till the 12th, then passed BCom with 37 percent, having tasted theatre through degree college.

’I have no distinct school memories except for excursions, plays, poetry, elocution, quiz programmes and art melas. I remember my head mistress in primary school who instilled my self-worth by discovering my recitation skills. In high school I loved my Hindi teacher Naamvar Singh, a poet and lyricist of repute. And my English teachers Parmar sir and Acharya sir for their passion for the language and their love for Wordsworth, Auden, Frost and D.H. Lawrence.’

NDTV 24X7 is bringing an exclusive preview of My Name Is Khan

With all eyes now on "My Name Is Khan", channel NDTV 24X7 is bringing an exclusive preview to the movies’ star cast, filmmaker and its making with the hit trio of Karan Johar, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.

The channel has tied up with Dharma Productions for the special series also called "My Name Is Khan", said a press release.

NDTV chairman Prannoy Roy will interview Johar, Shah Rukh and Kajol , who will share their trials and tribulation of working as a team and some moments from the movie.

The film is about Rizwan Khan (Shah Rukh), an autist, who is mistaken for a terrorist while travelling in the US. It releases Feb 12.

In the first episode of the NDTV series, Shah Rukh talks about his childhood desire to dress up like Amitabh Bachchan’s character in "Satte Pe Satte". He also shares the experience of his first day on set with Madhuri Dixit and friend and co-actor Kajol, about the advice given to him by actors like Anil Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah.

The series will be telecast every Sunday at 7:30 p.m. starting Jan 17.

Priyanka Chopra refuses to get drawn into the numbers game

Priyanka Chopra was marching towards the top with back-to-back hits “Dostana” and “Fashion” in 2008. Last year her “Kaminey” succeeded and if “What’s Your Raashee?” had worked, she would have certainly come closer to being number one. But the actress refuses to get drawn into the numbers game.

“When a couple of my films would succeed at the box office, then people would start commenting ‘Oh yes, you are at the number one spot’. But one flop later they may end up stating ‘arrey, yeh spot toh thoda hil gaya’,” Priyanka told IANS.

“In fact, sometimes you experience something even worse because the same people may even end up stating that she is gone and there is no future for her…However, one hit later, every statement would be retracted. No one can be really blamed because this entire numbers business is so fickle,” said the actress who has seen quite a few ups and downs in her career.

Was this why she didn’t worry much while signing a relatively smaller film like “Pyaar Impossible ”? Though she claims it was the film’s script that made her sign, she admits that big banners like Yash Raj Films have their relevance.

“Yes, one can’t deny the relevance of big banners. However, a fact that also cannot be denied is that sometimes even big films don’t work. I have first-hand experience in that because there have been some really big films that I wasn’t convinced about and hence had to decline them,” Priyanka said.

Unwilling to divulge the names of these films, she does reveal though that most of these films didn’t work at the box office.

“This is what further convinced me that I had taken the right decisions,” she said.

“On the other hand I have also done small films out of sheer gut instinct and they went on to be very good successes. So, you know, one can’t really be sure about this industry which is anyway so unpredictable,” the former beauty queen added.

“Pyaar Impossible” also starred Uday Chopra. Directed by Jugal Hansraj, the romantic comedy shows how fate brings Uday, a complete geek, and Priyanka, a beauty, together and love blooms amidst all odds.

Describing her fundamentals about working in films, she said: “It’s best not to do any prior calculations and instead just step into doing something where your instinct drives you. This is why I concentrate completely on my work.”

“As long as people say that I am a decently good actor and a very fine professional, I can say that I am at a happy place. I would be quite worried if they start saying anything to the contrary,” added Priyanka, who has worked in around 30 films during the last six and a half years in Bollywood.

Priyanka will next be seen in Siddharth Anand’s “Anjaana Anjaani” with Ranbir Kapoor. After that, she will begin work on Vishal Bharadwaj’s yet untitled film.

Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots has grossed over $70 million globally

Aamir Khan starrer comedy-drama "3 Idiots" has grossed over Rs.315 crore ($70 million) globally in the 19 days since its release, a statement by Reliance BIG Entertainment, the film’s distributor, said Tuesday.

Based on Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller Five Point Someone, the film has been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

"’3 Idiots’ has opened new vistas for the Indian film industry. The huge response across continents reinforces our belief that a well-made, well-exploited film can still create magic in the darkened auditorium. We are proud to be associated with Vinod, Aamir, Raju and the talented team of ’3 idiots’," said Amit Khanna, chairman, Reliance BIG Entertainment.

Added Chopra: "I am thrilled and humbled that so many people all over the world have loved this film. It proves true Rancho’s (the protagonist in the movie) mantra - chase excellence and success will follow."

Aamir echoed the sentiment, saying: "As a member of the team I am so happy with the kind of success that the film is achieving. Thanks to Raju (Hirani), for making the film so well, to Vinod for doing such a great job as a producer and to Reliance BIG Pictures for the kind of release they gave the film."

According to the statement, more that 60 million people have so far watched the film in theatres since its release Dec 25. Its box office collections have exceeded the over Rs.260 crore earned by another Aamir starrer, "Ghajini", considered Hindi cinema’s highest grosser till date.

"3 Idiots" is also being touted as the highest grossing Indian film ever to release in the US, Middle East, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Kenya and Fiji.

The film has retained its position in the top 10 film at the British Box Office and is also Aamir’s biggest grosser so far and highest box office grosser of 2009. The screen count in the US for "3 Idiots" has increased by 25 percent by the third week.

Indian multiplexes added on an average 14 to 21 new shows in the second week of the movie compared to its first week with 150 additional shows.

The paid previews of the movie also garnered over Rs.9 crore worldwide, above those of the paid preview collections of "Ghajini" that were Rs.7 crore globally.

The film also stars R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Kareena Kapoor in pivotal roles.

Amitabh Bachchan stole food from Shah Rukh Khan’s vanity van

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has proven he is no less than his “Paa” character Auro in real life. The sexagenarian was at his impish best at a recent awards ceremony when he went and “stole” food from superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s vanity van.

“I came in early and went straight to the back into the vanity van, to get ready and be made up for the presentation of the ‘Teen Patti’ promotion skit we were doing,” Amitabh posted on his blog Sunday night.

“Hunger pangs almost ripped my stomach apart and I stepped out and into Shah Rukh’s vanity (van) opposite mine and stole some of his salad that he was gorging into - he having missed his lunch as well,” added the 67-year-old.

Big B, as he is fondly called, bagged the best actor award for his performance in “Paa” at the 16th Annual STAR Screen Awards that was held Jan 9 in Mumbai.

Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao support to the cause of child welfare

Coiffed and coutured celebs looking beyond their powdered noses remain a refreshing departure to witness. Two youthful luminaries, Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao , extended their support to the marathon through NGOs Swayamsidh and Childline.

At a recent Press meet the duo expressed their solidarity to the cause of child welfare, amply displaying their empathy. "1098, the number of Childline, helps solve the problem of exploited and abused children. They receive about two million calls yearly, but this year they have received close to 17 million calls. Any underprivileged or exploited child should be made to avail of this facility, so that we can save them from future abuse."

Swayamsidh, based in Aurangabad, caters to the cause of challenged children and Kapoor bared his pride in combining forces with their mission. "Swayamsidh was started by ten women in Aurangabad and now they are that it makes me feel proud taking care of more than 70 children. They plan to grow further and I’m proud to associate with them.We want to make these challenged children as indepedent as possible."

The recent spate of child suicides have struck a heartfelt note in Rao’s psyche."More than money, what a child really needs is love. In addition to parental and peer pressure, it is the school teachers also can also put a lot of pressure on children. They have to show a great deal of understanding when they are tackling young minds. The family comes first and if the child feels disconnected with its parents, it can lead to a whole lot of problems later."

Here’s a peek at the winners’ list of 5th Apsara Awards

The 5th Apsara Film and Television Producers Guild Awards that unfolded yesterday, was of a grand affair - with the presence of glittering hi-profiled celebrities of the screen town. Bachchans, Khans, Kapoors and many other big names had descended the arena to sparkle the event. It was quite refreshing to see Preity Zinta and Arjun Rampal together, who acted as the hosts for the event.

The evening was lighted up with some fabulous performances by few Bollywood hotties like Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Arshad Warsi and Vivek Oberoi. Most importantly, the event honoured the industry’s noted personalities for their remarkable contribution to cinema. Among the jury were Ravi Chopra, Ketan Desai and Sajid Nadiadwala who had chosen the winners. Here’s a peek at the winners’ list:

Abhishek Bachchan had won the Guinness World Record for the Most Public Appearances to Promote a Film. The actor had travelled to 7 cities in 12 hrs to promote ‘Delhi-6’.

Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone will be next in-thing couple, for they are said to be paired up for a film!

After directing few impressive films, Kunal Kohli is turning to produce his first film this time. Titled ’Break Ke Baad’, the film will be directed by Danish Aslam and, like the title denotes, is said to be a modern love story of a couple who break up and want to come together. The film’s backdrop is set against the locales of Delhi and Australia.

Abhishek Bachchan has now become a tree to promote Idea Cellular

Abhishek ’Sirji’ Bachchan has now become a tree to promote Idea Cellular’s new ’Green Planet’ campaign.

With global warming becoming a hot debate topic, Idea’s Sirji is advocating ’Use Mobile, Save Paper’ to ’save the planet’.

The new Idea TVC showcases how the mobile phone can be used as an efficient tool to read daily newspapers, generate e-bills, make payments and transactions, issue e-tickets and boarding passes; thereby saving tonnes of paper everyday.

Brand Ambassador Abhishek Bachchan, playing the role of an agonized ’tree’ this time, strikes the idea of using mobile phone to save paper, and therefore, the greenery around him. As more and more people switch to their mobile screens, from everyday usage of paper, the tree regains life and leaves the audience with a simple message - ’Use Mobile, Save Paper’.

Speaking about the campaign, Pradeep Shrivastava, Chief Marketing Officer, Idea Cellular said, ’’Environment’ as a subject touches all, but gets attention only at strategic forums. The common man gets to contribute little towards the cause, due to lack of direction and ideas. Hence, IDEA Cellular has taken up the responsibility of educating the 500 million mobile phone users in the country. If they start using the mobile phone more judiciously, together we can make a significant contribution of saving paper, and therefore, the green cover necessary for the health of the planet."

The new ’Environment’ AD campaign went on air Thursday. This is the sixth in the series of Idea’s campaigns with the popular tag line - What an Idea, Sirji!

The preceding campaigns were - ’Championing a world without caste’; ’Championing a world in which no one suffers from the disability to communicate’; ’Education for All’, ’Participative Governance’, and the last ’Walk When You Talk’ - addressed subjects such as Caste War, Disability to Communicate, Education, Democracy and Health, respectively.

Amitabh Bachchan is dominating every moment counts in the promos of Rann

Rann is up for release and it is quite visible that Amitabh Bachchan is dominating every moment that counts in the promos of Rann. However, director Ram Gopal Varma is clear that this was always meant to be the case. As per him, the veteran actor was always meant to spearhead the show because of being the senior most member of the cast as well as the towering personality that he boasts off.

Despite the fact that one does catch a glimpse or two of other important characters played by cast which is principal/supporting or established/younger, ultimately it is Amitabh Bachchan who is clearly spearheading the entire show.

"Isn’t that obvious", questions back Ram Gopal Varma, "With the kind of personality and the stardom that he enjoys, it is but natural that Amitabh Bachchan would be spearheading the entire film."

If one goes by the film’s synopsis, there are so many other characters like Sudeep, Riteish Deshmukh , Mohnish Behl, Paresh Rawal, Rajat Kapoor etc. who have been described to be quite important. What sort of space and time has Ramu managed to create for these characters?

"Every other character is important; otherwise it wouldn’t have found a place in the film. There won’t be any character that would feel short changed or left out in the film," assures Ramu.

As expected from every Ram Gopal Varma film, whether big or small, this one too boasts of some enticing promos that have caught the nation’s attention. This was especially the need of the hour considering the fact that January is laden with close to half a dozen exciting films like Veer, Chance Pe Dance, Dulha Mil Gaya, Pyaar Impossible and Ishqiya.

Produced by Sheetal Vinod Talwar and Madhu Mantena, Rann is all set for January 29 release.

It’s a face-off between Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif

Priyanka Chopra who was touted to be the leading lady of Dostana sequel is now said to have lost the project to her archrival Katrina Kaif. We hear that Piggy Chops will only be seen in the film for a brief period of time and it is Katrina who’ll be playing a romantic interest to Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham.

We hear director Tarun Mansukhani is now busy penning an interesting scene where both the actresses will be seen locking horns.

Confirming the news a source told a daily, “It’s a face-off between Katrina and Priyanka. However, it is not a bitchy or dramatic scene, but a comic and light-hearted one.

Priyanka makes her entry when the Desi girl track (Priyanka’s song from ‘Dostana’) starts playing. The boys in the club then start looking at her instead of Katrina. The latter gets upset that the focus has shifted to Priyanka and breaks into a sexy dance with her.

Priyanka’s presence in the film was decided even before Tarun started scripting the film. In fact, she had personally told Tarun that she wanted to be part of the sequel.”

Mansukhani also confirmed Priyanka’s presence in the film but denied having decided on a scene for her.

Talking to a daily, he said, “Yes, Priyanka will surely be part of the film. She’s not just my favourite actress but also a very dear person. She has an important role. However, I am yet to figure out where and how she will appear as I am still in the scripting process.”

Ram Charan has been roped in for Farhan’s film

Here’s a buzz that has made its way into the grapevines….

Our Akhtar Jr was said to be quite impressed with Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Teja , after watching his Telugu super-duper hit flick Magadheera.

So much that Farhan is cooking to bring in a film with Ram Charan. Birdies reveal that Farhan had loved the film and Ram Charan’s performance and also felt that the actor has all the qualities of an action hero.

Birdies further said that Ram Charan has been roped in for Farhan’s film, said to be titled Haafiz and bannered under Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani’s banner Excel Entertainment. The film deals with the story of two friends while other casts are still to be finalised. The shooting will commence in April and the film will mostly be shot in the Mumbai locales.

Interestingly Deepika Padukone and Kangna Ranaut are the two options being considered opposite Ram Charan and the film will be made in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi, birdies added.

However, on the other hand Farhan, although pleased with Ram Charan, said to have denied such project with the actor….

Dulha Mil Gaya is coming on the big screens Today

Here, people, Viveck Vaswani’s much awaited film is finally making its entry. Starring Sushmita Sen -Fardeen Khan with the touch of SRK, ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’ is coming on the big screens Today (Jan 8).

The film’s leading lady is one who is quite excited for its release. Sush seem to be in fact caught with the film’s magic. The actress these days is ga-ga about her forthcoming and looking forward to its premier tonight….

“After a long time, I can truly say that this is my film because I have a very pivotal role in it,” quipped Sushmita, “As it is I do less work, and when I do show up in a film, people are keen to see me doing something substantial. This is the kind of film that when I tell people to come and see, I’m taking full responsibility... because it is my film.”

The beauty said to be truly impressed with the film’s outcome and every character in the film especially its male stars Shah Rukh and Fardeen.

On the other hand, a delightful Fardeen shared, “The entire cast and crew besides Sush and me completely believe in this film, which is why we are so excited to bring it to our audiences.”

It is heard that at the premier tonight the film’s print will be arriving in a wedding-like procession, complete with a wedding horse.

‘Dulha Mil Gaya’ is a directorial debut of Mudassar Aziz. This romantic-comedy is produced by Viveck Vaswani under Insight Production and presented by Morpheus Media Ventures.

Preity Zinta has been off the Bollywood radar for a long time

Preity Zinta has been off the Bollywood radar for a long time as she was preoccupied with the Indian Premier League (IPL) and a management course at Harvard Business School in the US. She has reassured fans she will be seen in a whole lot of movies in 2010.

"Guys I am back in business. Its nice to be back after a freezing New Year. Well my New Year resolution is to work in more films, work out five times a week and learn how to drive in Mumbai traffic, " Preity posted on her Twitter page.

"You all will see me doing a lot of movies this year! Please be patient and wait for announcements, " she added.

Preity was last seen in full fledged roles in films like "Heaven On Earth" and "Heroes" apart from cameos in "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" and "Main Aur Mrs.Khanna". This year, she is expected to be seen in Jahnu Barua’s "Har Pal".

KatrinaKaif and Priyanka Chopra together in The Italian Job remake

Just like two swords can’t be in the same scabbard, it’s rare to find two leading Bollywood actresses in the same movie without one of them being relegated to the sidelines. Only very rarely in films like Race or Bachna Ae Haseeno have top actresses come together and shared equal footage.

Now, Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra , doubtlessly two of the most sought-after actresses in B-town, are being considered for parallel roles in the Hindi remake of the 2003 Hollywood heist flick ‘The Italian Job’ that starred Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton, Jason Statham and Seth Green, among others.

Though the Hollywood flick had just one heroine, director Rohit Jugraj (who’s previously directed duds like James and Superstar) has altered and modified the original script to Bollywoodize ‘The Italian Job’. The Hindi version will have two heroines. Kat and Priyanka have reportedly been approached for the roles.

It would be nothing short of a casting coup if the two beauties give their nod to sharing the screen space in the film. Being produced by Abbas-Mastan duo and TV 18, the yet untitled movie will star Abhishek Bachchan and Neil Nitin Mukesh in principal roles. Akshaye Khanna and Kunal Kapoor are also likely to play significant roles.

Priyadarshan to bring in a film on a serious subject

The news had been in the rounds for quite sometime about Priyadarshan’s next film which is going to be far from being a comedy. The ace National award winning director was said to bring in a film on a serious subject with the backdrop of inter-caste marriages in Bihar.


The filmmaker for past few days had been chalking out titles suitable for the film. He was keen to get a strong title that will be able to support the film’s equally strong storyline…



It is said that Priyan had circled on the title Ganga Jal. But his film’s lead stars Ajay Devgn and Bipasha Basu were quite amused with the choice. They both had in fact acted in Prakash Jha’s film that had same title! And this fact was unknown to Priyan!


And finally the director with his script and dialogue writer’s help fixed on another title - Nishaad.


Besides Ajay and Bipasha, Nishaad also has Akshaye Khanna in a pivotal role.
